How to train during the cold days

Yes, there is nothing better than going out for a run on a nice sunny day. Unfortunately the summer has passed and now cold days are coming. So do we switch to boring treadmills? Not necessarily. A lot of sports apparel companies now offer running clothing for cold weather. First you should start with your base layer. It usually consists of two parts: a tights and a long sleeve top. They are both made of special material that regulates your temperature and lets sweat evaporate quickly so you feel comfortable. Some warm and comfy gloves and a hat can prove to be very useful too. Then you should consider buying new warmer socks, but you don’t need to purchase new pair of running shoes. Well that is basically all you need. Any old jogging pants and jacket will do as an outer layer. Just make sure that they are wind and waterproof. They should be breathable too, so the sweat can escape your body freely. And don’t forget your GPS running watch so you can keep a record of your progress.
During the cold days and especially during the winter our bodies enter a different state of metabolism. We need to sleep more and eat more as in order to keep us warm our bodies have to burn more calories. When you get to the running make sure that you do some basic stretching and warm-up exercise. In colder weather we still sweat, but it is less noticeable so we think that we don’t need to drink much water. That is not true so make sure that you are well hydrated and if you are planning a longer run bring some water or an isotonic drink along.
Finally don’t forget to take hot shower after your run, so your body can warm up your body and refresh your mind. If you have access to a spa with steam room that is even better as steam not only relaxes your muscles but cleanses your skin as well.
