How Jogging is Good for the Mind.

Everyone knows how important it is to exercise. After all, it’s the obvious way to keep yourself in tip-top physical condition! But there is another equally good reason for getting outside and burning off some of those calories… it has a truly positive effect of your state of mind too. Because exercise releases endorphins, these react with the receptors in our brains; and this puts a smile on our faces. Now that has to be a good thing!

Now, I cannot tell a lie; there are plenty of days when the last thing I feel like doing is slipping into my Brooks running shoes and going out for a jog. However, I always end up feeling a lot better when I force myself to! Sometimes you just have to force yourself to do things, don’t you?

Depression is a big problem in modern day society and it is very easy to see why. However, if more people were taught about the huge benefits of exercise, then things would be a whole lot different. Rather than being stuck on Prozac or some other nasty chemical for years on end, people would be feeling better about things in a far more natural way. Because the truth of it is that going for a daily jog is just as effective as taking antidepressants; probably a lot more so in fact!

It seems strange to me why the government is not placing more emphasis on the mental health benefits of regular exercise. It would certainly help a lot more people back into work and would save the economy an enormous amount of money at the same time!

Oh well, that’s just the way things are I suppose, but it does make me feel a bit gloomy… And you know what that means, don’t you? Yup, it’s time for me to go for a run!
